Most Noteworthy New Theatre Company:
for their production of Hello and Goodbye
MARJORIE NELSON, Director
Belltown Theatre Center, Seattle
"“Hello and Goodbye” at the Belltown Theatre Center is the strongest Athol Fugard play I have ever seen. As I watched, I forgot to think of this as a play, I was completely caught up in it. Jessica Marlow-Goldstein is wonderful as Hester, a mix of rage , hunger and guts; a dreamer lost, but lost in the real world. Johnny, played with equal depth by Larry Silverberg, stays away from the world. He’s direct and childlike, but so emotionless his innocence is almost animal. These two actors end up so real we enter the play ourselves, in the role of the god they’ve lost - undeluded about their failings, unable to offer comfort, yet profoundly sympathetic.”"

"BTC’s inaugural staging of Athol Fugard’s drama “Hello and Goodbye” starring BTC artistic director Larry Silverberg and Jessica Marlowe-Goldstein, suggests that talented, serious-minded artists are in charge here. ...Silverberg as Johnny, remains skittish and glazed - like a small, desperate animal writhing in a trap. He’s unnerving and ultimately pathetic, as Johnny must be.” Hello and Goodbye” showcases two great actors; it marks a good beginning for BTC."
